Mayor Job Cohen of Amsterdam wants people that are about to buy magic mushrooms for the first time in their life to take three days to think their purchase through. Within this term the purchaser can gather information on the hallucinating mushrooms so he can make ‘a more conscious choice’.

Dutch Minister of Public Health Ab Klink (CDA)will decide in two weeks on the legal status of psychoactive mushrooms. That he announced last Thursday.
Klink is considering a minimum age for those who buy them. Also the quantity of shops where mushrooms are available should be reduced. Tourists should be informed on the risks of mushroom (paddo) consumption.

Dutch media failed in checking and rechecking their sources - one of the most important principles of journalism - by publishing their stories about the several magic mushrooms incidents earlier this month. Now it seems to be that the French tourist who murdered his dog with a pair of scissors last friday, did not consume any magic mushrooms at all.

Alcohol and tobacco are more harmful than many illegal drugs including the hallucinogen LSD and the dance drug ecstasy, according to a new scale for assessing the dangers posed by recreational substances.
Drug specialists say the current system for ranking drugs - class A for the most dangerous to class C for the least dangerous, as set out in the Misuse of Drugs Act - is irrational, arbitrary and "lacking in transparency".
Scientific evidence shows that heroin and cocaine are correctly ranked as class A drugs as they do cause the most harm. But LSD and ecstasy come close to bottom of the league in terms of harm caused, yet they are also labelled as class A (in the United Kingdom)

The Dutch policy of tolerating the sale and use of marijuana and hash in small amounts will not exist anymore in 10 years, so has Health Minister Hans Hoogervorst predicted at a drugs congress in Mexico. He expects that the Dutch drugs policy will become increasingly stricter in order to get in line with the rest of Europe.

TUCSON, Ariz. - A preliminary study of the active ingredient in psychedelic mushrooms has found it is effective in relieving the symptoms of people suffering from severe obsessive compulsive disorder, a University of Arizona psychiatrist reports.

Webster's Dictionary defines a narcotic as "a drug that produces numbness or stupor; often taken for pleasure or to reduce pain; extensive use can lead to addiction." Mushrooms are NOT narcotics!
