After 15 years of regulated sales a new back entrance has been created.
Every day since the ban on ‘magic mushrooms’ of december 1rst, some 6.000 young adults must resort to the illegal circuit to buy dangerous synthetic alternatives for ‘paddo’s’ that drugsrunners do not provide. So the total now is 5 days x 6.000 = 30.000, of which 19.500 (65%) outside of Amsterdam. Without minimum age, without quality control, without safe dosage and usige instructions, in unlimited quantities.
The dealer in the illegal circuit just asks: “What do you want? How much can you pay for it? Need anything else?” By 31-12-2008 even more than a monthly total of 180.000 people will have found their way to illegal suppliers, due to Christmas and New Year’s Eve ofcourse. And we are “just” talking about the shifted market and numbers of consumers, related to magic mushrooms and illegal alternatives as a result of the total ban of regulated selling of ‘paddo’s’... After conforming themselves to the rules of selfregulation for years (15!!) to take the responsibilty for the safest possible sale and use of paddo’s as mildest alternative for illegal synthetic hallucinogens, smartshop owners can only watch their dissappointed customers become living bait around the corner of their shops, as they fall prey to drugsrunners of the illegal circuit. The calculations above are based on sales statistics, provided by the VLOS (Dutch Smartshop Association) for the 2007 risk analysis of CAM (Drug Monitoring Agency). Therefore CAM concludes that further regulations would give the best results. For the analysis of drug availability and use in the illegal circuit we refer to Adviesburo Drugs In Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Nijmegen the authorities are not maintaining the prohibition yet. In Maastricht and Roermond nobody has been checked so far. These municipalities and mayors contribute to reduction of the number of young adults going into the illegal circuit. As long as municipalities maintain the transparent regulated circuit by not executing the prohibition, they contribute very nobly and positively to the protection and wellbeing of these young adults. The mayors of these municipalities know from daily experience, that the experts are right: further regulation will give the best results for public health protection of experimenting young people, according to CAM advising commission for the minister of public health. A few lessons in Klink-logic: To explain minister Klink’s way of reasoning, to show that he knows better than all experts together, and thus can decide - against all experts warnings and advices – to start a new policy of total prohibition instead of maintaining the dutch regulating policy that has been constructed carefully over the past thirty years, based on sciense and, above all, sense of reality. According to Klink / Ballin / Joldersma cs. a total prohibition will end supply and demand. People will not use it anymore. “A total prohibition will put us back in line with our neighbouring countries”. Official numbers show that 70.000.000 cannabis users live in Europe. Klink-logic: The Netherlands are the only country in Europe with a tolerance policy. In all other European countries there is total prohibition. According to Klink there are no cannabis users in countries with total prohibition, so all 70.000.000 cannibis users must be living in the Netherlands (population 17.000.000). If we execute total prohibition, all 70.000.000 cannibis users will stop smoking cannabis. Sweet dreams Dr Professor Klink!
