Job Cohen, major of Amsterdam doesn't like the national ban on magic mushrooms. After negotiations with delegates of the national government he said he would start execute the national policy in Amsterdam, 'with fresh reluctance'.
Cohen says that he is generally cooperates well with the national government. "But I do not always agree with them. For instance, i think in Amsterdam we have a great drug policy. I don’t think national measures should intervene with this. I will execute the imposed ban on shrooms with fresh reluctance; if i were to decide i wouldnt have imposed it, though.
I think there’s too much emphasis on tackling drugs, and too little on tackling drinking. Everyone seems to think it is normal that people drink themselves into delirium, but that’s what really gives us trouble. Supermarkets are filled with alcoholic beverages. People can obtain alcohol too easy. We shouldnt think of prohibition , but at least parents could play an important role in the ‘crack down’ (of alcohol).
