homer_the_screamWe now know that for Minister Klink a “causal link” has a slightly different meaning than for his lawyer.. According to the dictionary it means: “The principle of or relationship between cause and effect”. But logic doesnt seem to be something these people can cope with.

Minister Klink’s reply on the questions of MPs Van Velzen (SP), Van der Ham (D66) and Azough (GroenLinks) on “magic mushroom incidents” (2080910540).

Question 1: Do you remember your answers to the parliament? *1) Are you also familiar with the decision of the urgent appeal’s Court’s proceedings between National Smartshop Association www.VLOS.nl and the State of the Netherlands November 28, 2008?  *2)

Answer 1:  Yes, these questions have been answered by my colleague of Justice on behalf of me.  I am also familiar with the decision of the Court 's-Gravenhage of November 28, 2008.

Question 2: How does the finding in the verdict that "the State in court (has) confirmed that none of the incidents to which the Minister has made a causal link between mushroom use and incident” relate to your answer: “In retrospect it is unfortunate that it seemed that we banned the shrooms because of this incident. What i wanted to say is that the incident of the alleged use of magic mushrooms made me and my colleagues decide to brainstorm to ban the magic mushrooms. The ban, however, is based on a few incidents where there was clearly risky and unpredictable behaviour, caused by, among other substances, the use of magic mushrooms.”?  Do you share our opinion that your answer does not match the opinion of the Court?

Answer 2: The State has indicated in court that the relationship is not substantiated by results of toxicological tests, but these incidents by both the care of the health authorities and by the experts of the CAM have been identified as a magic mushroom-related.
The answer to the Chamber, I have assumed the term "causal" as used in the normal usage. I have indicated that a number of incidents there was a "causal" link between use and shroom incident, a context that care expert have reported. It is, in my opinion, sufficiently proven that the incidents were (also) due to the use of magic mushrooms.

Question 3: To which  incidents you are referring exactly? Could  you give an overview of the incidents involving causal link between the use of mushrooms and mushroom incident? For these incidents, could you show whether other substances (such as alcohol and cocaine) have been used as well, or that it was purely a mushroom incident?

Answer 3 In 2007, a number of incidents occurred (partly) due to the use of magic mushrooms. In that year was 149 times the ambulance calls related to incidents after taking magic mushrooms. 1 out of 20 ambulanceritten there was cause for hospitalization. In 4 cases there was a potentially serious or life-threatening situation due to injuries incurred under the influence of magic mushrooms. A 17-year old French girl died after being under the influence of magic mushrooms a bridge jump, three others were lacerations or fractures on.

In the summer of 2008, an incident occurred again, with magic mushroom use played a role. A 18-year-old boy from Den Haag died after leaping from the window. It was his friends who called the police, inter alia, under the influence of magic mushrooms. Inquiry at the Central Post ambulance shows that in 2008 up to August 31, 2008 in Amsterdam in 97 rounds which are known in the documentation a relationship was established with the use of magic mushrooms

Given the above figures GGD Amsterdam and the Central Post ambulance (CPA) was positive in all these cases of a "causal" link between the use of magic mushrooms and the incident. In other words, the incident occurred after someone had used magic mushrooms. A number of these incidents were also other resources in the game, such as alcohol, cannabis and cocaine.

Question 4: What is your reaction to the statement of Prof. toxicologist. Dr. FA de Wolff, in a letter dated November 21, 2008 stated that for none of the incidents in Amsterdam and Den Haag it is determined that there were really magic mushrooms consumed, or that the observed clinical effects of magic mushrooms can be attributed, even if they had been consumed? *3)

Answer 4: That  mushroom use is not based on toxicological research is confirmed, does not mean that it has not contributed to the occurrence of injury. I see no reason to doubt the expertise and the reports of the GGD Amsterdam and Den Haag.

Question 5: Are you willing to reconsider your implemented ban on hallucinogenic mushrooms?

Answer 5: No. Im an not willing to.

*1) Responses from January 20, 2009 to Chamber members of Van Velzen (SP), Van der Ham (D66) and Azough (Green) on the three-time expression of untruth around Mushrooms (2080907450)
*2) Sentence of the Court 's-Gravenhage of November 28, 2008. www.rechtspraak.nl, LJN number BG6117
*3) Paragraph 2.16 of the sentence, under: 2

Saveourshrooms’ answer to the ministers answer to question 5: we will make you willing on the 5th of March; when we sue you ! The same reports told you that in more than 95% of the cases people just needed to be calmed down a bit, and nothing bad happened. In the same reports it showed that alcohol and other drugs had 100 times higher incident numbers, so what are we talking about.
